Design Infection

Infection

“No two people are the same, and neither are two of the hairs that grow on your head. I wish our products were a bit more like this as well. The next step in mass production could be controlled imperfect production, for interesting, personal objects.”

Pieke Berkmans

An infection is the detrimental colonization of a host organism by a foreign species. In an infection, the infecting organism seeks to utilize the host’s resources to multiply (usually at the expense of the host). The infecting organism, or pathogen, interferes with the normal functioning of the host and can lead to chronic wounds, gangrene, loss of an infected limb, and even death. The host’s response to infection is inflammation. (from Wikipedia)

We use objects and they change our lifestyle, by using them we create the need of them.

We shape our lifes on them.

We  feed them with resources, material and energy and we gave them the material and the tools to multiply.

We may feel good but the greed of possession grows in our guts.

As Gandhi said “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed”.

Are objects an infection? Is design a disease? or the cure?

Tempura street dandys

Tempura'n'beerChilling, Socializing, being cool, look good and living life.
A dandy follows the religion of aesthetics, like Baudelaire would say.
They live easy, relaxed, driven by social life and leisure, looking for the cool things and surrounded by beauty. Is this objectionable?
In all the major city of the world a lot of people are trying to be as dandy as they can…why not?
What’s the point of not looking for the nicest things?
Brick Lane is now new breed dandys playground.
New dandys lives here and they don’t have tuxedos. They sit on the ground, chilling, listening music, buy records, drive their fixed bike.
Weird becomes beutiful, ugly becomes cool, experimentation brings to innovation and the edge runs always further…social and fashion evolution.
Botero loved fat, we love bones and silicon…
However the point is not to analize this and criticize it, but to live it.
So What’s best than a huge tiger tempura shrimp while drinking an ice cold beer sitting on a concrete step with friends in tempura street?
I wanna be a  tempura street dandy too…You?

Bubbles spotting

bubbles in london

camden bubbles

Camden, monday morning.

It’s not so easy to see bubbles flying around the city, normally they don’t come so close to humans.

Bubble hunters have a tough life because it’s difficult to survive just by hunting them.

But suddendly these flying bubbles ran towards me like a flock.

Few noticed, other didn’t care, because the shopping mode was on for them. Eyes only for real and tangible objects.

Bubbles are so nice but so fragile, so ephimeral.

Don’t kill bubbles, never, you can try to catch them but it’s so difficult to keep them alive. Let them fly.

As the muse says “you never grow too old to blow bubbles”.

Fish and chipsing

Fish?

Walking around while thinking and watching the world from a fish eye.

A different perspective, different angles, different people seen in an other way: a broader one.

Chips?

Chips are junk but they are fun. Something that you don’t need in order  to survive, but that attract you in an addicting and sick way.

Snapshots of unusual sick views of our everyday, greasy and fried life.
